Out of stock

A small evergreen shrub with arching branches, with light and lacy pinnate, notched leaves. Each bloom is actually many small flowers with inconspicuous petals that form a sphere. The showy part consists of hundreds of long, pollen tipped red stamens that, when the sun shines on it, give the appearance of being fiber optic. Full to part sun or bright filtered light. Regular moisture, in average to fertile, well drained soil. Suitable for containers or bonsai.

Light Requirements

Full Sun

Calliandra emarginata performs best with full sun exposure. It is best outdoors where it can receive sunlight all day unimpeded. It requires full intensity sunlight to avoid issues that keep it from reaching its full potential.

Symptoms of a lack of full sun include:

  • Pale colors
  • Spindly, leggy growth
  • Leaf drop
  • Failure to thrive

Indoors, Calliandra emarginata may not get enough light unless it is in a solarium, greenhouse or next to bay windows.
