About Flowering Trees

In my pursuit of collecting tropical plants, I have always been in awe of great big flowering tropical trees that fill the sky with color or the air with fragrance, sometimes both. In thic section we present a collection of tropical flowering trees.

In Hawaii and Southern Mexico, homes adorned with Plumeria fill the afternoon air with the rich fragrance of frangipani. The easy to grow trees won’t survive in the ground in colder climates but can easily be trained and pruned to grow in a container and brought indoors to sleep through the winter.

A riot of blue flowers cover Jacaranda trees in Spring and fill the sky with flowers. It is a favorite tree in Buenos Aires and Mexico City where public works line the streets to showcase dramatic blue crowned promenades. Love it or hate it, the flowers fall in masses to form blue carpets of spent blooms on the ground.

Bright yellow sprays of flowers burst forth from the Jamaican rain tree. Most gregariously after a rain. Butterflies are very happy with this tree.

The queen of flowering trees, the fittingly named Delonix regia, explodes in a blaze of fiery red blossoms. Those lucky enough to live where this tree thrives are treated to spectacular displays of masses of flowers on majestic branches.

Zone 9 Tropicals carries a wide selection of tropical flowering trees. Choose one fit for your area and delight.
